Illinois
    Senate Bill 935 was passed by the Illinois Senate on May 31st and signed by the Governor at the end of August. The law now requires insurers to expand coverage of amino acid-based elemental formulas regardless of delivery method for specific conditions. This legislation is a historic step for coverage of these medically important formulas.

Maryland
    We currently have a bill introduced in Maryland (HB578) and we are continuing to meeting with parents and legislators during the 2008 legislative session. If you would like to be involved in this process please contact us here.
Michigan
    Numerous families from across the state of Michigan have met with their legislators over the last few months. Stemming from one of those meetings Representative Alma Wheeler Smith has introduced two bills requiring amino acid-based elemental formulas to be covered by insurance companies regardless of delivery method; the bills are officially titled House Bill 5152 and House Bill 5153. The legislation upon introduction was referred to the Committee on Insurance and we expect a hearing in the near future. Minnesota
    The Anaphylaxis & Food Allergy Association of Minnesota working with State Officials was able to get insurers in the State of Minnesota to voluntarily add coverage for amino acid based elemental formulas to their medical policies. Coverage will be extended via policy with language that mirrors the legislative mandate that was introduced in HF0529 and SF0504. The Minnesota House Bill is HF0529 and the Senate Bill is SF0504. Virginia

Washington State
    Legislation was introduced in Washington and subsequently a hearing was held. To read the official hearing report please click here. To view the bill and other documents please click here. The legislation moved through many steps in the political process but unfortunately stopped before being voted on by the entire Washington State Senate.
